Petroglyphs
in Surf. Ka Lae, Ka'u District, Island of Hawai'i
Carved in the dark lava rock, these petroglyphs
would otherwise be invisible when submerged except for
a fortuitous circumstance-the surf has filled them with
bits of dazzling white broken shell while sweeping the
surrounding are clear. With each surge, they appear and

(The Ka Lae petroglyphs are referred to in Corson's
novel Aloha, Mr. Lucky-tell us the page number and receive
a free museum exhibition brochure of Corson's photographs.)
